Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) is a student movement that represents Islam through commanding good, forbidding evil, and standing for justice. The fundamental mission of SIO is to prepare students and youth to rebuild society in the light of divine commands. Islam is the name of that divine command. SIO represents Islam. Islam is the life form that enables spiritual salvation and social liberation together. SIO believes that the light of Islam will not fade away with the flow of time. SIO understands that the divine light that had shown the right path for the first human can still guide society in this 21st century with the same elegancy. Based on this ideological grounding, SIO formulates its entire perspectives, frameworks, policies, opinions, and actions. SIO is the student collective that reads the world and time on such grounds and attempts to rebuild them. Rooted in the divine teachings of Islam, SIO is at the forefront of struggles against all forms of societal evils, state terrors, and injustice. The organization invites and provides platforms to strengthen and develop new intellectual ventures. SIO stands as the voice of marginalized and discriminated people and helping hands for the vulnerable and those who suffer. SIO always strives to teach moral values to students and nurture them in the light of goodness, brotherhood, love, and service.
SIO was founded as the student organization of Jama’athe Islami Hind on 19th October 1982. As a result of forty-two years of constant efforts, it became the most prominent Islamic student movement in India, with its presence in all the states around the country. SIO functioned as a student-youth movement during the initial years. However, after the foundation of the Solidarity Youth Movement in 2003, SIO became a completely student-centered organization in Kerala.
